A library of advice rises up in the stacks of my brain. Collected over more than seven decades, these treasures represent lives of individuals who made contributions to my growth and maturity. Some nuggets came from The Holy Spirit which He invested in the fabric of my being. Others came from fellow pilgrims. From the bits below, may there be a gem shining just for you.
Bible: The Bible is not just a good suggestion.
Community: Be a part of a group.
Disappointment: Disappointment is inevitable; discouragement is a choice. (C. Stanley)
Facts: Nothing has meaning without a context. (B. Biehl)
Friendships: Treasures that exponentially increase in value over the course of a lifetime.
Hospitality: Keep a meal in the freezer which can be pulled out at a moment’s notice and shared with unexpected guests.
Gratitude: Send your mother flowers on your birthday.
Growth: Realize that the single greatest factor to determine my ongoing maturity is me. (J. Henderson)
Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is The Secret to living the abundant Christian life.
Home: Flowers bring joy to any room.
Kitchen: A cup of coffee in the morning and a cup of tea in the afternoon help solve a host of dilemmas.
Marriage: Keep short accounts; never go to bed with unresolved conflict.
Mindset: Control is a myth. (B. Lawrence)
Mother: Be quick to say to your child, “I am sorry; I was wrong.”
Overachiever Mom: Less is enough.
Parenting: If you want them to talk to you as teenagers, talk to them as toddlers. Be there!
Perspective: 90% of life is attitude, the other 10% is perspective. (L. Thompson)
Prayer: Always obey the impulse to pray. (D. Horsey)
Philosophy of Life: Say yes whenever you can.
Priorities: My #1 priority for everyday is to spend time with Jesus.
Project Development: GEMO; good enough, move on.
Submission: “Thy will be done.”- the prayer that always gets answered.
Traveling: Pack two days ahead of time to avoid forgetting important items.
Turning Down a Request: No is a complete sentence.
Unwanted Realities: In acceptance lies peace. (E. Elliot)
Vacation: Allow each part to inspire you: 1) planning 2) participating 3) reflecting.
My Bottom Line, Best Line, Last Line: Nothing is worth anything unless everything is given to God.
